Public revolt in PoK: More than 30 protesters killed in Pakistani army firing, internet shut down

Rawalakot, June 9. A public revolt has erupted in the Rawalakot area of ​​Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). In fact, Pakistani security forces opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). More than 30 people have been confirmed dead in this firing while more than 200 people are said to be injured. Unconfirmed reports put the death toll at more than 100.

Leaders associated with the movement allege that internet services have also been stopped in the entire PoK since the night of June 5, due to which the communication system has been badly affected.

Pakistani army is shooting the protesters at sight. Reports received from local activists said that J&KJAAC members Shahzeb Habib and Amjad Kashmiri have been killed during the agitation. Protesters allege that security forces are using excessive force against peaceful protesters.

According to media reports, the protests are no longer limited to Rawalakot only. Demonstrations and bandh have been called in many areas including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Tata Pani and Plandri. Protestors were also reported to have blocked major roads in Plandri.

Meanwhile, responding to the protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘We are seeing a continuation of spreading fake news and videos from Pakistan in this matter. This is a desperate attempt by Pakistan to hide its failures and divert attention from human rights violations. There are reports of police brutality in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, in which many people have been killed and many injured. We hope that the international community will hold Pakistan accountable for its wrongdoings and human rights violations.
