Crowd of ‘over qualified’ candidates seen in UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam, MSc, MBA and LLB degree holders also join the race for government job.

The ongoing Police Constable Recruitment Examination in Uttar Pradesh has once again exposed the increasing attraction of youth towards government jobs in the country and the challenge of employment. A large number of candidates who have obtained MSc, MBA, LLB and other higher educational degrees or are continuing their studies are appearing for this post with intermediate qualification.

About 29 lakh candidates have applied for recruitment to 32,679 constable posts in the state. During conversation with the candidates who reached the examination centres, it was revealed that many candidates aspire to become constables despite having postgraduate and professional degrees. He says that in the present times, getting a government job has become the biggest priority.

Kunal Sharma, who reached Lucknow from Agra to take the exam, told that he is an MSc student and has been preparing for police recruitment for the last two and a half years. He had earlier also tried for the post of Sub-Inspector, but was not successful. In such a situation, constable recruitment is an important opportunity for them to enter government service.

A large number of candidates were seen at various examination centers in Lucknow who have Masters degree or are associated with MBA, LLB and other higher education courses. Many candidates say that they are giving priority to government jobs due to not getting the expected opportunities and stability in the private sector.

About 1.36 lakh candidates appeared for the examination at 55 examination centers in the capital Lucknow. After the completion of the examination, many candidates admitted that despite having higher degrees, it is not easy to get permanent employment. In such a situation, a government job like police constable has also become a respectable and safe career option for them.

Experts believe that this situation reflects the changing nature of employment in the country and the priorities of the youth. The security of government jobs, regular income and social prestige are still attracting millions of youth. This is why even highly educated candidates are seen competing for positions with relatively lower qualifications.

Amidst the increasing competition and limited opportunities in the field of employment, this recruitment examination is presenting an important picture of not only the selection process but also the changing mindset of the youth and the realities of the employment market.
