Why doesn’t my family come to meet me… First 8 members of the family got burnt in the fire, now Radhe Shyam also died in the hospital, such a sad end for the whole family.

The fire that broke out on the morning of June 3 in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar was not just burning a hotel. An entire family, its generations, its laughter, its dreams and its future were being reduced to ashes in that fire.

Till a few days ago, the house of the Agarwal family located in Sector-46 of Gurugram was inhabited like ordinary Indian families. There was an elderly father, son, daughter-in-law, granddaughters and relatives coming and going in the house. But within a week everything changed. Today that house has a door and walls, but there is no one left to call them theirs.

The story starts with 80 year old Radhe Shyam Aggarwal.

Age and illness had taken him to the hospital bed. He was fighting between life and death in Max Hospital, Saket. The family had come to Delhi from Gurugram to take care of him. To avoid the hassle of frequent trips to and from the hospital, son Vivek Aggarwal along with his family took a room in the Flourish Stay Hotel located in front of the hospital. Perhaps no one had thought that this decision would change the fate of the entire family.

Vivek Aggarwal was a chartered accountant by profession. In the family, his mother was Premlata Agarwal, wife was Tarjani Agarwal, who had once been a finalist of Mrs. India 2023. He had two daughters, who were still old enough to dream. Some other relatives were also staying in the hotel. They all had the same objective. Spending as much time as possible with Radhe Shyam Agarwal.

But on the morning of June 3, a massive fire broke out in the Flourish Stay Hotel. Within a few minutes the fire engulfed the entire hotel. People kept trying to get out, kept screaming, kept asking for help, but many lives were captured amidst smoke and flames. By the time the fire was extinguished, eight members of the Aggarwal family were gone forever.

Why don’t my family members come to meet me now?

Ironically, the elderly father for whom the whole family had come to Delhi to serve, was fighting for his life in the ICU of the hospital. He was not even told that the family for which he waits every day is no longer in this world. According to the hospital staff, Radhey Shyam Aggarwal used to repeatedly ask why his family members were not coming to meet him. No one gave a clear answer.

Perhaps the most painful part of this story is related to his granddaughter.

His elder granddaughter, who was studying engineering in Bengaluru, had come to Delhi especially to meet her grandfather. Relatives say that Radhe Shyam Aggarwal was very happy after seeing his granddaughter. He proudly told the hospital nurses that his granddaughter had come all this way just to see him. Little did they know that this meeting would prove to be their last. On the day when the family was to come to bid farewell to grandfather, fate changed the entire scenario. The people who came to bid farewell to Dada themselves departed from this world forever.

Even after the accident, Radhe Shyam Agarwal remained admitted in the hospital. He was not informed about the death of the family. But perhaps life had not saved much time for him either. Now Radhe Shyam Aggarwal has also breathed his last. With his death the last link of the Aggarwal family was also broken.

Nine deaths in a week. A family, which had three generations, has now become history.

Today, neither the voices of children echo nor the sound of anyone coming and going is heard in that house located in Sector-46 of Gurugram. The rooms where once the family would have eaten together, where festivals would have been celebrated, where plans for the future would have been made, there is now only silence. Some accidents don’t just take lives, they end the story of an entire dynasty.

This Malviya Nagar fire incident has also become one such story – a story in which a family had come to save their elderly, but in the end the entire family left this world. Now all that is left behind are memories, some photographs and the pain of those relatives, who will probably feel this emptiness for the rest of their lives.
