Revolt of 20 TMC Lok Sabha MPs, political earthquake from Delhi to Kolkata after meeting with CM Shubhendu

The biggest and unexpected upheaval has so far taken place in the politics of West Bengal. There has been a major rift in the state’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has shaken everyone from the country’s Parliament to the political corridors of Bengal. Under the leadership of senior TMC leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, 20 Lok Sabha MPs of the party have raised the bugle of rebellion and made a sensational announcement of their support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Trinamool Congress had a total of 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha, out of which one MP has sadly passed away. In such a situation, due to the simultaneous separation of 20 MPs, the existence of the parliamentary party led by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee is under threat.

‘Inside story’ of Indi alliance meeting in Delhi and split of TMC written at Bhupendra Yadav’s house

The inside story of this great rebellion is related to Delhi. While Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee were attending a very important meeting of the opposition’s ‘INDIA Alliance’ in Delhi, the script of this big breakdown was being written right under their noses. More than a dozen rebel TMC MPs suddenly visited Union Minister and BJP election in-charge of West Bengal Bhupendra Yadav at his residence in Delhi. The most shocking thing is that West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari himself was present in this high-profile meeting. After this secret meeting it became clear that the process of division in Trinamool Congress has now fully started.

Masterplan to avoid anti-defection law, preparation to merge with BJP with two-thirds majority

To save its membership in the Parliament, the rebel group has prepared a solid maze with the help of legal experts. After getting the formal permission of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, these rebel MPs can be recognized as a separate component from the TMC in the Parliament, after which their seating arrangement in the House will also change completely. Since out of the total 27 living MPs, 20 MPs are with the rebel group, which is more than two-thirds, hence no punitive action will be taken against these MPs under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution i.e. ‘Anti-Defection Law’. However, for this, legally, he will have to completely merge his new faction with BJP, because after the constitutional amendment in 2003, the provision of forming only a separate faction was abolished.

Like Shiv Sena and NCP, the fight to capture the real TMC will be based on the historical decisions of the court.

This split is not limited to just supporting the government, but the real intention of the rebel group is to capture the entire Trinamool Congress party and its official election symbol. By proving its overwhelming majority in both Parliament and Assembly, this group is going to fight a legal battle to establish itself as the ‘Original Trinamool Congress’ (Original TMC). The strategists of the rebel group are giving the example of the historical political development of Maharashtra, where after the decision of the Supreme Court and the Election Commission, the faction led by Eknath Shinde got the status of real Shiv Sena and the faction with Ajit Pawar got the status of real NCP (NCP). On the same formula, now preparations are going on in Bengal to oust Mamata Banerjee.

Abhishek Banerjee trapped in technical issue, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar is still the Chief Whip of TMC in Lok Sabha

In this entire political drama, a big administrative negligence of Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee has also come to light, due to which the rebel group has got the benefit. Some time ago, Abhishek Banerjee had publicly announced the removal of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from the post of Chief Whip of TMC, but no official letter regarding this was sent by the party to the Lok Sabha Secretariat. This means that technically and legally Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar still remains the official Chief Whip of Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha. Taking advantage of this technical glitch, the rebel group has directly challenged the decision to remove him from the post.

The party is in shock due to the resignation of Ritabrata Banerjee in the Assembly and Sukhendu Shekhar in the Rajya Sabha.

The troubles for Trinamool Congress are not limited to the Lok Sabha only, but all three houses of the party have been uprooted. Already in the West Bengal Assembly, 58 TMC MLAs had clearly refused to accept party-appointed Shobhan Chattopadhyay as their leader and in his place had chosen Ritabrata Banerjee as their new leader, who has also been recognized as a separate faction. On the other hand, Sukhendu Shekhar Rai, the senior most and powerful MP of TMC in the Rajya Sabha, has given a deep wound to the Mamata camp by resigning from all the party posts along with the membership of the Rajya Sabha. Apart from this, discussions about the resignation of Rajya Sabha MP and famous actress Koel Malik soon are also very intense in the political circles. In the coming days, this rebel group may meet the Lok Sabha Speaker and make a formal request to appoint its new parliamentary party leader in place of Abhishek Banerjee.
