Bng vs AUS: Bangladesh did wonders after 21 years, broke Australia’s pride; Nahid Rana created a stir with his performance
Bangladesh vs Australia: : After defeating Pakistan in the ODI series, Bangladesh has now achieved what it was waiting for. After 21 years, Bangladesh has defeated Australia in an ODI match. In the first match of the ODI series played in Mirpur, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 86 runs (DLS method) thanks to the dangerous fast bowling of Nahid Rana. This is Bangladesh’s first ODI win against Australia since 2005 and only their second overall.
Mossadeq out after 4 years
Exactly 21 years ago, in June 2005, in Cardiff, England, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 5 wickets, thanks to a brilliant century by Mohammad Ashraful. This was Bangladesh’s first win against the then world champion in ODI cricket. The Australian team with legends like Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie was perhaps the strongest team of that time.
In the match played in Mirpur on 9 June, even though the Australian team did not field at full strength, it was still difficult for Bangladesh to get success. Especially when the team had lost four wickets for 140 runs. But Mosaddek Hussain took charge of the innings and celebrated his return to the team after four years by scoring unbeaten 86 runs in 70 balls. With this Bangladesh made a strong total of 284.
Amazing work of Taskin Ahmed
Once the batsmen had taken the team to a good score, it was the turn of the bowlers. Spinners are often the biggest threat on all Bangladeshi grounds, including Mirpur, but the Bangladeshi team is going through a period of change in this regard. Fast bowlers are also leaving their mark, and that is exactly what happened here. Experienced fast bowler Taskin Ahmed clean bowled opener Matthew Short on the very first ball of the Australian innings. In the very next over, the second pacer Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Marnus Labuschagne. After this, the Australian batsmen tried to increase the score by making partnerships in between.
Match won by Duckworth-Lewis method
But it was here that 23 year old fast pacer Nahid Rana struck. His first victim was Australian captain Josh Inglis, and after his dismissal, the two traded blows. Then, between the 29th and 33rd overs, Australia lost four wickets for just 12 runs, three of which came because of Rana’s pace. Australia’s eight wickets had fallen for just 140 runs, and defeat was certain. Cameron Green added some runs from one end, taking the team to a score of 191, where he also scored a half century. But then rain stopped the match, which could not be restarted and Bangladesh won the match by Duckworth-Lewis method.
