Ackeem Auguste, Springer Included in West Indies T20I Squad for Sri Lanka Series

Ackeem Auguste, Shamar Springer and Andrew Jewel have been included in the West Indies T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home.

The trio are the only changes in the squad that competed at the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been rested for the Sri Lanka tour of the West Indies 2026 as part of the workload management. Shamar Joseph, who returned home before the third ODI against Sri Lanka due to personal reasons, is expected to rejoin the squad ahead of the series.

West Indies narrowly missed the place in semi finals of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Announcing the West Indies T20I squad, CWI said, “Exciting young batting talents Ackeem Auguste and Jewel Andrew, along with all-rounder Shamar Springer, are the three changes to the squad that featured at the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, where the Men in Maroon fell just short of reaching the semi-finals.”

“Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was not considered for selection as part of workload management plans and will continue his training and preparation ahead of the two-match Test series being held in Antigua.”

This will be first T20I assignment since their impressive campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in February and March.

On the other hand, Head coach Daren Sammy said the series will be a perfect opportunity to entertain fans while continuing to develop its style of play.

“This series is an important one for us as it’s our first since the World Cup in India, where the team played with passion, fight and the togetherness that West Indies cricket is built on. Our focus now is to build on those foundations, continue growing as a team and make our fans proud with the way we compete against Sri Lanka,” Sammy said.

The T20I series will begin on June 12 at Sabina Park, Kingston.
