After Divorce From Anurag Kashyap, Kalki Koechlin Had Difficulty Finding House For Rent, Actress Reveals

Kalki Koechlin has candidly spoken about the challenges she faced after her marriage to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap ended nearly a decade ago. In a recent interview on the AfterHours YouTube channel by All About Eve, the actor shared how her personal life became increasingly difficult, despite her professional success at the time.

Kalki and Anurag were married in 2011, but their relationship began to fall apart, leading to their separation in late 2013. Their divorce was finalized in 2015, just as Kalki’s career was reaching new heights. “When me and Anurag had divorced, those two films were out there—’Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’and ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’,” Kalki recalled. “Then, there’s this divorce,” she added, pointing to the stark contrast between her successful career and personal turmoil.

However, the most unexpected and troubling challenge came in her search for a new place to live in Mumbai. Kalki revealed that as a single woman, she struggled to find a rental property, despite her fame. “Nobody would give me a house to rent in Mumbai as a single woman. I was like, I am famous. You want to take selfies with me, but you don’t want to give me a house,” she said, describing the frustrating experience of feeling both publicly admired and privately rejected.

Kalki, who made her film debut in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D in 2008, had established herself as a prominent figure in the film industry even before her marriage. The two were together for several years before separating. After their divorce, Kalki rarely discussed her personal life publicly, focusing instead on her work. In 2019, she confirmed her pregnancy with Israeli musician Guy Hershberg, and the couple welcomed their daughter in February 2020.

Professionally, Kalki continues to thrive. She was last seen in the 2023 Netflix film ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’. Kalki Koechlin has candidly spoken about the challenges she faced after her marriage to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap ended nearly a decade ago, where she played a supporting role. She also made a special appearance in the dance number for the same year’s film ‘Sam Bahadur”.

Kalki’s reflections on her post-divorce struggles offer a rare glimpse into the personal challenges she faced, contrasting the glamorous image often associated with her public persona.
