Amidst the glamor of IPL and new NCA, BCCI is being criticized, Kanpur Test became a cause of embarrassment. – Read

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday, September 28 announced several new rules including the retention policy for the mega auction to be held for the IPL 2025 season. A day after this, on Sunday, September 29, BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, Vice President Rajiv Shukla and Treasurer Ashish Shelar inaugurated the Board’s new Center of Excellence i.e. the new National Cricket Academy near Bengaluru. Between these two high-profile and important events, which present the strength of the board and its strong image, the Test match being played in Kanpur has become a cause of embarrassment for the board and it has to listen to the criticism of the fans.

Completely clear for the second consecutive day

The third day of the Kanpur Test between India and Bangladesh was also canceled without a single ball being bowled. Earlier, no play could take place on the second day as well, whereas only 35 overs were bowled on the first day of the match. Rain had stopped the match on the first day but the match could not be held on the next two days due to the years-old dilapidated system of the Green Park Stadium. According to the information, on the second day, light rain of barely a few minutes ruined the field.

On the third day of the match, i.e. on Sunday, when BCCI officials were inaugurating the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, the umpire at the Green Park Stadium was announcing the cancellation of the game. This is the situation when there was not even a single drop of rain on the third day but still not a single ball could be bowled. This means that despite there being no rain, the wet ground could not be dried even in two days. Under the patronage of the world’s most expensive cricket board, which will earn Rs 17 thousand crore in the year 2022-23, can there be anything more embarrassing than completely washing out two days of a Test match?

Why did you get hosting after poor condition?

Green Park Stadium is one of the oldest venues in India for international cricket and dozens of matches have been played here. But it seems that even today this stadium is living under the decades old system, the effect of which was seen in this match. A day before the start of this match, it was reported that the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Uttar Pradesh government had declared one of the stands of the stadium unsafe and advised to reduce the number of spectators in it. Not only this, during the India-New Zealand Test match played on the same ground in 2021, the floodlights of the stadium came under question, due to which the last day’s play ended a few minutes early and Team India missed the victory. .

Not only this, in a report it was also claimed that the senior players of Team India are not ready to play on this ground in future because the facilities available in the ground as well as the stadium are not good. Also, the board is also not sure about the hosting capacity of this stadium. Despite this, why was this stadium given the hosting of the test match? According to the information, due to the rotation policy of BCCI, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) decided to organize it in Kanpur because Lucknow has not been able to get the status of Test venue at present. In such a situation, the question arises that despite knowing the condition of the Kanpur stadium, should it have given such an important test match by following the rotation policy?

Just rotation or politics?

The question also arises because the lobby of the association cannot be denied under the guise of rotation policy. Remember that BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla comes from UPCA only. Anyway, this kind of politics has always been seen in BCCI and the priority of venues accordingly. When Jagmohan Dalmiya was the President, the headquarters of BCCI was shifted from Mumbai to Kolkata. Then Sharad Pawar, while holding the top post, brought it back to Mumbai. Since Jai Shah became the secretary, Ahmedabad Stadium itself has hosted many big matches ranging from IPL finals to India-Pakistan matches and World Cup finals.

BCCI’s insult, fans disappointed

The last aspect in this is the ownership of the stadium. Kanpur Stadium actually comes under the Sports Directorate of Uttar Pradesh Government. However, the Directorate has given the stadium to UPCA on a multi-year lease, in return for which the association pays an annual fee of Rs 1.25 crore to the government. In such a situation, the question is whether the Sports Directorate of the UP Government should have taken the responsibility of improving this stadium or the UPCA, which has taken it on lease?

Whatever be its technical aspects, in the eyes of cricket fans, this is only a defeat for BCCI, the most expensive cricket board in the world and this is the reason why the fans are angry at the board, which is always notorious for being indifferent towards the spectators. Is. Whatever be the outcome of the match, the defeat has once again been of the cricket fans, whether they are the ones watching in the stadium or the spectators sitting staring at the TV.
