Anger in Sikh community over Harak Singh Rawat’s statement, AAP attacks Congress
Punjab News: Political tension has increased in the state capital after former Uttarakhand cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat made alleged objectionable remarks against the Sikh community. On Saturday (6 December), the Sikh community protested at Ghantaghar Chowk and burnt the effigy of the former minister. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab has also launched a scathing attack on the Congress leader.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA targeted Congress over this statement. He said that it seems that this has been done deliberately. The MLA alleged that the thinking of Congress has always been against Sikhs. Citing Operation Blue Star, massacre of Sikhs in the country and giving big posts to leaders accused in such cases, he said that all this proves that Congress has been against the Sikh community.
Lawyers expressed objection
Let us tell you that on Friday (December 5), Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat, who had come to support the lawyers’ protest site on Haridwar Road, gave an objectionable statement. On the 26th day of the lawyers’ strike, when he was expressing support, a Sikh lawyer stood up to say something. Harak Singh Rawat allegedly made objectionable remarks to make him sit. The lawyers immediately objected to Rawat’s statement and termed it an insult to the Sikh community. Amidst the huge protest and uproar, Harak Singh Rawat had to immediately apologize and leave the protest site.
Harak Singh Rawat gave his side
In the evening, Harak Singh Rawat reached the Bar Association office in the District Court and presented his side on the entire matter, saying that he had personal and close relations with the Sikh lawyer whom he had asked to sit. His statement was not meant to make fun of anyone or hurt sentiments. Rawat said that he had said this keeping in mind the history of bravery of the Sikhs, but it was misinterpreted.
Harak Singh Rawat finally said that still if anyone’s sentiments have been hurt, he apologizes. Despite this clarification by Rawat, there is deep anger in the Sikh community regarding his statement.
