West Indies announces squad for Sri Lanka T-20 series, Auguste, Andrew and Springer return

New Delhi. West Indies Cricket Board has announced the team for the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka. Akeem Auguste, Jewel Andrew and Shamar Springer have returned to this team.

Some changes have been made in the team selected for this series to be held in Jamaica from the team that recently played the T20 World Cup. Johnson Charles, Quentin Sampson and Jayden Seales have not been included in the team this time, while fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was not considered for selection under the workload management plan.

22-year-old Akeem Auguste has played nine T20 international matches so far. 19-year-old Jewel Andrew has played five matches in this format, while all-rounder Shamar Springer has represented West Indies in six T20 Internationals.

Apart from this, fast bowler Shamar Joseph, who left the ODI team due to personal reasons and returned home, is expected to join the team before the T20 series.

Head coach Darren Sammy said, “This is our first T20 series after the World Cup in India. The team showed passion, fight and togetherness, which is the hallmark of West Indies cricket. Now our aim is to carry forward the same performance and compete strongly against Sri Lanka.”

All three T-20 matches will be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica on June 11, 13 and 14. After this, both the teams will play a two-Test series in Antigua. Earlier, Sri Lanka had won the ODI series 1-0, while the last two matches were abandoned due to rain.
