New Mayor of Delhi Pravesh Wahi: Journey from organization to power, big challenge to make it clean

New Delhi. A new chapter in the politics of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) began when senior BJP councilor Parvesh Wahi was elected as the new Mayor of Delhi. Pravesh Wahi, who has been a councilor from Rohini East Ward three times, has taken charge of the most important municipal body of the capital on the basis of long organizational experience and grassroots politics.

Pravesh Wahi’s political journey is not a story of sudden success. Hailing from an ordinary family of Old Delhi, he played an active role in social and organizational work for years. Association with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and various social organizations gave him experience in the politics of public service. Later, while performing various responsibilities in the Bharatiya Janata Party, he made a strong mark in municipal politics.

While holding important positions like Leader of the House and Standing Committee in the Municipal Corporation, Pravesh Wahi prominently raised issues related to cleanliness, waste management, roads and basic facilities. While presenting the corporation’s budget, he had put forward the vision of making Delhi clean, organized and modern.

After becoming mayor, Pravesh Wahi clearly said that his priorities would include strengthening Delhi’s sanitation system, reducing the burden on landfill sites, modernizing the garbage disposal system and improving civic amenities. He also reiterated his resolve to make the capital clean and beautiful.

Reducing the mountains of garbage in Ghazipur, Bhalswa and Okhla, which are among the biggest challenges of Delhi, is also among his priorities. The Municipal Corporation is already working towards scientific disposal and redevelopment of these sites, the responsibility of giving new momentum to which now rests on the shoulders of Mayor Pravesh Wahi.

Pravesh Wahi did not limit himself to mere announcements. To promote environmental protection and public transport, he himself was seen reaching office by metro, which gave a positive message to the corporation employees and citizens.

After the recent fire incident in Malviya Nagar, he ordered a high-level inquiry and also indicated that he would keep a special eye on civil safety and administrative accountability. Today, when Delhi is struggling with challenges like cleanliness, pollution, traffic and waste management, Mayor Pravesh Wahi has a big responsibility of not only running the corporation but also living up to the expectations of the citizens of the capital. His journey from being an organization worker to becoming the first citizen of Delhi has been completed, but the real test has now begun.
