New Delhi, Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has said that in countries like Australia and South Africa, there are more racist comments on players and this is unacceptable.
Gambhir’s statement comes after racial remarks made on Indian players during the third Test played in Sydney between India and Australia. Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj and Jaspreet Bumrah were subjected to racist comments during the match.
Gambhir said in a show, it is very unfortunate and it is something that is not acceptable at all in any sport. Not just cricket, but in any sport and I believe there is a need to enact strict laws against it. When it happens to a player, only he realizes it.
He said, you face such abuses while playing important matches like Boxing Day Test in places like South Africa and Australia.
He said, it also depends on how abusive words were used against you. This is not acceptable anywhere, especially the comments on your skin color. Whatever happens in Australia, it needs to be stopped.
Gambhir saluted the Indian team’s desire to draw the match, saying it was unbelievable. This shows the spirit of the team. Rishabh Pant batted brilliantly. The way he batted, there was a need at the time. He supported his way of playing. Such a draw match is like a big win in Australia.
