Huge explosions in Beirut created panic, Israeli army fired missiles at Hezbollah headquarters

Beirut: The Israeli military said Friday it carried out an airstrike on Hezbollah's central headquarters in Beirut, where a massive explosion reduced four buildings to rubble and sent plumes of orange and black smoke into the sky. The attack, in Dahiya, a suburb of Beirut, came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations. Netanyahu pledged in his address that Israel's campaign against Hezbollah would continue.

Loud explosions rock Beirut as Israeli forces claim an airstrike on Hezbollah headquarters. Just before the blast, thousands of people had gathered in the suburb for the funeral of a senior Hezbollah commander and three other members. At present no information about casualties has been received. Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the attack was carried out on Hezbollah's headquarters located beneath residential buildings.

According to Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV, four buildings were reduced to rubble in the blast, and the blast was so powerful that it shook buildings up to 30 kilometers away. Ambulances were seen heading towards the scene of the attack. Earlier, a nine-member family was killed in an Israeli attack in a border village in Lebanon.

Tension is increasing between Israel and Hezbollah. Israeli airstrikes have escalated this week, and officials say preparations are being made for a large-scale operation to stop Hezbollah's continued shelling. Israel has sent thousands of troops to the border to push Hezbollah away from the border. Israeli strikes killed at least 25 people on Friday, according to Health Minister Firas Abiad, bringing the death toll in Lebanon this week to more than 720.
