According to the analyst, due to the delay in launch, the price of JioPhone Next may be more expensive than expected. There is no official information yet from the telco about the price of the upcoming device. Google-backed Jio Phone Next was announced at the 44th Annual General Meeting earlier this year. The smartphone was supposed to launch on September 10, but a day before the launch, the dates were pushed ahead of Diwali due to an industry-wide semiconductor shortage.

Jio and Google have said that they have made a lot of progress regarding JioPhone Next. The company has started testing Jio Next. At present, it is for limited users only. Jio had earlier said that it would be the cheapest 4G smartphone in the country and the JioPhone Next was expected to be under Rs 5000. However, according to a report, the JioPhone Next is likely to get costlier due to the delay in its launch.

Analysts told ET Telecom that along with a 20 percent increase in the price of components, the purchase of components has been increased from eight weeks to around 16 to 20 weeks for some. The analyst also pointed out that JioPhone Next may have a limited shelf life unless the telco starts focusing on new SKUs for next year. Because the availability and pricing of components are likely to remain challenging for the next 6-8 months.

JioPhone Next is not the next version of Jio Phone and Jio Phone 2. Apart from the custom version of Android, JioPhone Next will come with Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud, and language translation. In this, you will also get on-screen text and a camera with India-centric filters.

JioPhone Next is said to have a 5.5-inch HD display. It will be powered by Snapdragon 215 chipset and will come with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB onboard storage. The device could sport a single 13-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel shooter. Apart from this, JioPhone Next can come with a 2500mAh battery. Reports state that Jio has partnered with several banks to reduce the starting price of this device so that users can avail JioPhone Next at a nominal amount of Rs 500 and pay the rest in installments.
