In an important achievement, the Central Government has released the details of successfully filled backlog reserved vacancies for SC, ST and OBC candidates. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that as per data provided by various ministries and departments, more than four lakh backlog reserved vacancies have been filled for SC, ST and OBC candidates since 2016.

“Creation and filling of vacancies, including backlog reserved vacancies, is a continuous process,” he said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The Center hailed this achievement as an important initiative to empower SC, ST and OBC candidates.

What next?

In continuation of this process, instructions have been issued to all Ministries/Departments of the Central Government to constitute an in-house committee. The Committee will identify the backlog of reserved vacancies, wherein they will also study the root causes of such vacancies. Later, they will initiate measures to remove the causes of such vacancies. According to the minister, the vacancies will be filled through a special recruitment drive.

The Minister also said that every Ministry/Department of the Central Government is required to designate an officer of the rank of Deputy Secretary and above as Liaison Officer. This officer will have to ensure proper compliance of orders and instructions related to reservation.

Further, each Ministry/Department will set up a special Reservation Cell under the direct control of the Liaison Officer.

However, details of vacancies are maintained by the respective government organizations under the respective ministry/department, the minister said.

“The Central Government Ministries/Departments have been instructed from time to time to fill the vacant posts in a time bound manner,” Singh said.
