Big relief to Rajasthan government, court puts conditional stay on attachment of Bikaner House in Delhi

Rajasthan government has got a big relief in the matter of order to attach Bikaner House in Delhi. Delhi's Patiala House Court has put a conditional stay on the attachment, which is subject to depositing the outstanding amount within a week. The next hearing of the case will be on January 7, 2025. The court said that Bikaner House, which is historically important for the Rajasthan government, will remain under the control of the state government for the time being. This will not cause any hindrance in government work. Rajasthan Municipality Nokha owns Bikaner House.

Why was the attachment order given?

The mediation center had reached an agreement after the dispute between Rajasthan's Nokha Municipality and Enviro Infra Engineers Private Limited. Patiala House Court had ordered to pay Rs 50 lakh 31 thousand to Enviro Infra Engineers. The court had issued this order on January 21, 2020, but Nokha Municipality did not make the payment to the company. On November 21, the court said that Nokha Municipality will not take any decision regarding Bikaner House till further orders.

Bikaner House was opened to the public on 18 November 2015, as it was an important place at the time of India's independence where the royal houses, apart from Rajasthan, used to discuss the merger policy.

Bikaner House has an old history. It was built during the reign of Maharaja Ganga Singh of the princely state of Bikaner and was built in British and Rajputana style. It had chhatra style domes and separate rooms for guest rooms and ladies. On 18 February 1929, it was opened with a grand house-warming ceremony.
