Car Overheating : If you see ‘these’ 6 things while driving, take the car aside immediately; Otherwise the engine will fail permanently

  • Recognize the early warning signs
  • Don’t even make this mistake
  • Risk of head gasket failure

Car Engine Overheating Causes Summer 2026 : When summer begins in India, the temperature rises above forty degrees. Not only people, but also our beloved cars have to suffer a lot in this hot sun. Getting stuck in traffic jams on summer days and keeping the AC running continuously during long journeys causes cars’ engines to heat up quickly, which is called ‘Engine Overheating’ in automobile parlance. Often before a car breaks down, it warns us through various means. However, most drivers ignore these signs as minor, which further leads to complete engine failure.

6 Big Warnings to Get Before a Car Overheats

Most people think that when white smoke comes out of a car’s bonnet, the engine is overheated. However, this is not the case, the car is already giving the following 5 to 6 important signals:

1. Temperature Gauge: If the needle of the temperature meter on the dashboard moves towards the red mark (H – Hot) while driving, it is the first sign that the engine is overheating.

2. Engine warning light: A yellow or red ‘check engine’ or overheating light starts flashing on the dashboard.

3. Cooling loss of AC: If the car’s AC suddenly stops blowing cold air or the cooling becomes too low during the current journey, understand that the cooling system is being put under extra stress.

4. A strange burning smell: A strong smell of burning plastic or oil inside or outside the car cabin is a sign of engine overheating.

5. Engine Noise: When the engine heats up, its performance slows down and the car runs like it’s stuck. Sometimes a ticking or knocking sound is heard from the engine.

6. Evaporation from the bonnet: Light white steam coming out of the hood is a sign that coolant is boiling directly from the radiator.

Don’t make the mistake of pouring water on a hot engine!

If your car overheats during the trip, first park the car in a safe place on the side of the road. Stop the engine immediately and allow it to cool with natural air with the bonnet open. Many drivers pour cold water directly on a hot engine out of haste or fear. According to the laws of science, if cold water is suddenly poured on very hot metal, the thermal shock can cause cracks in the engine block or cylinder head. So do not touch the engine until it is completely cool.

Role of coolant and radiator

Open the radiator cap very carefully only after the car has cooled down completely. If the lid is opened while hot, the boiling water inside may splash onto the face causing serious injury. Check the coolant level in the radiator. If coolant runs out or leaks, add additional coolant and water mixture. It is always beneficial to keep an extra bottle of coolant in the car when going on long journeys in summer.

Regular servicing is the only best solution

It is very important to clean the radiator of the car before the start of summer, check if the cooling fan is working properly and change the engine oil on time so that the car engine does not overheat. If old or damaged engine oil is in the car, it may not reduce the friction in the engine, causing the engine to overheat faster. Timely servicing and a little vigilance on the part of the driver can easily save the car from major and expensive repair costs.
