According to AsiaOneSheh shared her experiences starring in numerous martial arts shows at the start of her career, which led to numerous injuries, during an event hosted by HSBC on Monday. She confessed to not purchasing medical insurance early on because she learnt about financial matters “slowly” and was “unaware” of it, resulting in her having to cover all medical and hospitalization expenses out of pocket.

“It was expensive, but I had to pay for it myself,” Sheh stated.

She added that an incident then served as a turning point, prompting her to purchase medical and critical illness insurance policies.

Sheh also recounted the stunts she performed, which, while not dangerous, were “pitiful.” She described being wired up to perform aerial stunts and continuing to film while kneeling, despite severe pain.

“A week later, both of my legs were injured,” she disclosed. “It was so painful I cried.”

She noted that she still suffers from some of these injuries today but is now better informed and ensures she has additional coverage before engaging in risky scenes. However, she acknowledged that insurance policies often exclude coverage for activities considered excessively hazardous.

“If the script requires something, I will try to accommodate it,” she declared.

Sheh, 49, began her entertainment career as the first runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 1997 and quickly rose to fame with TVB, featuring in popular series such as “War and Beauty,” “Beyond the Realm of Conscience,” and “Forensic Heroes.”

After departing from TVB in 2016, she established Charmaine Sheh Workshop Limited and broadened her acting career in China, receiving acclaim for her role in the 2018 series “Story of Yanxi Palace.”

In 2023, Sheh made a comeback to TVB, appearing in “The Queen of News” and winning her third Best Actress award at the TVB Awards.
