Cheteshwar Pujara wants a free hit on a no-ball in Test cricket; Wasim Akram counters him with a sub-continent reminder
The International Cricket Council has a rule in place where the free hit is given if a no-ball is bowled in white-ball formats. However, this rule hasn’t been introduced to Test cricket so far. India National Cricket Team batter Cheteshwar Pujara wants the ICC to add a free hit rule to the longest format of the game.
However, he was countered by legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram, who urged the decision-makers to leave something for the bowlers.
“Wasim Bhai, don’t you think ICC should add free hit rule on a no ball in Test cricket?” Pujara said.
“Leave something for the bowlers in cricket. There is nothing for them in other formats,” Wasim replied.
“I think free hit rule is must on a pitch like Perth,” Pujara added another angle to his demand.
“Yeah. It should be for such tracks but not for sub-continent pitches. Bowlers are taken for plenty of runs in that part,” Akram further said.
Meanwhile, Australia dismissed India for 150 runs, with Josh Hazlewood taking four wickets. He was assisted by Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Pat Cummins, who dismissed two batters each, respectively.
The visitors were more impressive with the ball, restricting Australia to 104 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets, while Harshit Rana (3 wickets) and Mohammed Siraj (2 wickets) also showed their class.
India are playing a five-match Test series against Australia.
