Importance of Somvati Amavasya
The date of Amavasya is considered sacred, which is dedicated to the ancestors. The new moon of Adhikamas is special, because it comes once in three years. On this day, one attains virtue by worshiping, bathing and donating. Amavasya falling on Monday is called Somvati Amavasya.

According to Drik Panchang, June 15 is the new moon of Adhikamas, which will fall on Monday. On this day, by offering Tarpan and Pind Daan to the ancestors, one gets their blessings. There is a religious belief that by donating some special things on this day, one gets freedom from Pitra Dosh, which brings happiness in life.

According to the Panchang, the Amavasya tithi of Jyeshtha Adhikamas will start on June 14, 2026 at 12:19 AM and end on June 15 at 08:23 AM. Due to Udaya Tithi it will be celebrated on 15 June 2026, Monday.

Donation measures on Somvati Amavasya

  • Donating food is considered a great donation in Hindu religion. Donate food to the needy on Amavasya. The ancestors are pleased with this.
  • Donate shoes and slippers to a orphanage or old age home on the day of Amavasya. This donation is considered auspicious and one gets the blessings of the ancestors.
  • Donate black sesame seeds on Somvati Amavasya. Along with donating sesame seeds, mix sesame seeds in a pot in the morning and offer it to the ancestors. This removes the obstacles of life.
  • Make sure to donate a lamp. Light a lamp in a temple or donate a lamp in the river. It is auspicious to light a lamp on the Peepal tree also.
