CM Rekha led the cleanliness campaign amid increasing pollution – Read
Amid concerns over rising pollution in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a cleaning and washing campaign on the Ring Road at Khyber Pass Chowk in Civil Lines and herself participated in the campaign by sweeping and sprinkling water. The Chief Minister said that this campaign is an important step towards making Delhi pollution free and ensuring effective control of dust. He further said that regular road washing, mechanical sweeping and ground level monitoring is being done with great speed and seriousness across the city. He said that for the first time in the history of Delhi, a washing campaign has been conducted on the entire Ring Road.
He further said that dust is a major cause of pollution. To deal with this problem permanently, roads are being constructed wall to wall. He alleged that previous governments neither showed interest in road construction nor ensured that roads were built wall-to-wall, resulting in dust flying in Delhi throughout the year. However, his government has now ensured its permanent solution.
The Chief Minister further informed that adequate budget allocation is being given to the elected representatives to build such strong and dust-proof roads. He said that Rs 10 crore is being allotted to each MLA so that they can start construction of these roads in their constituencies. The Chief Minister said that the Delhi government is working to stop the use of open coal and wood as well as to deal with the problem of long-term pollution. For this, the government has started providing electric heaters to security guards and electric irons to clothes pressers, so that dependence on traditional fuel can be eliminated. He appealed to all sections of the society and companies to help in providing electric heaters and electric irons to the needy citizens through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, so that they can adopt cleaner alternatives.
