Court gave a big blow to Donald Trump
Washington: US President Donald Trump has received a setback from the court in the matter of increasing H-1B visa fees. The US Federal Court has canceled the Trump Administration’s decision to charge a fee of one lakh dollars (more than 90 lakh Indian rupees) for H-1B visa, and declared this contract invalid. Boston District Court Judge Leo Sorokin gave this decision on Monday. This can especially benefit those Indians who want to go to America.
US District Judge Leo Sorokin has given this decision after hearing the case filed by 20 Democratic State Attorneys General. In this lawsuit, the Donald Trump Administration’s decision to increase H-1B visa fees in September last year was challenged. The Trump Administration had increased the price of obtaining an H-1B visa several times to $100,000.
Donald Trump’s increase in H-1B visa fees was declared illegal by the judge because it was not approved by Congress (US Parliament). Before Trump’s order last year, employers seeking H-1b visas for foreign workers typically paid a fee of $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the reason. Trump increased it to one lakh dollars.
Indians will get relief
65,000 visas are issued every year under the US H-1B program. Additionally, 20,000 visas are offered for employees with advanced degrees, which are granted for three to six years. Indians are getting the most benefit from this visa program. In such a situation, the Trump Administration’s decision to increase the fees will provide relief to Indians.
