'Corona' will prevent cancer from spreading! A research done on rats opened a new path of treatment
London: Now corona or Covid infection can be very useful in preventing the spread of cancer. It is not us, but a research published in the journal Clinical Investigation suggests that an unexpected potential benefit of severe Covid infection is that it may help prevent cancer-affected cells from spreading.
In this regard, this surprising information obtained from research done on rats can open new avenues for the treatment of cancer. This new research has mentioned the complex relationship between the immune system and cancer cells, although this does not mean that people should assume that Covid can protect against cancer. There is considerable data to highlight the importance of the immune system in cancer. Many drugs impact the immune system, revealing its potential and this is an important focus of my own research.
This research was focused on a type of blood cell (red blood cell) called 'monocytes'. These immune cells play an important role in protecting the body from infection and other threats. However, in cancer patients, tumor cells sometimes take over monocyte cells and make them favorable for cancer growth. These cells then protect the tumor from the immune system, due to which the tumor starts spreading. Researchers found that severe Covid infection causes a special type of monocyte cells to form in the body, which have the ability to fight cancer.

These monocyte cells are especially capable of fighting viruses, and they also have the power to fight cancer cells. To understand how this works, we need to look at the genetic details of the virus that causes Covid. Researchers found that these monocytes have a special 'receptor' that binds well to a specific sequence of Covid RNA.
In this regard, Ankit Bharat, one of the scientists involved in this research work from Northwestern University of Chicago, explained this connection by giving the example of a lock and key and said that if the monocyte is considered a lock, then Covid RNA is the best key to close it. Will happen. To test their theory, the research team conducted experiments on mice suffering from a variety of cancers, including melanoma (skin), lung, breast and intestinal cancer.

They also gave mice a drug that produced a special type of monocytes. The results of this experiment were spectacular and the tumors of mice suffering from all four stages of cancer started shrinking. Unlike normal monocytes that were transformed by the tumor into cancer-friendly cells, these specialized monocytes retained their cancer-fighting properties. The specialized monocytes were able to travel to tumor sites where most immune cells could not reach. Once there, the specialized monocytes activated natural cancer-preventing cells. These natural cells then attacked the cancer cells, stopping the tumor from spreading. (with agency input)
