New Delhi : The US military intercepted a tanker without oil in the Gulf of Oman. Meanwhile, a Palau-flagged tanker caught fire after a US Navy attack. In which 24 Indian crew members were aboard. The Palau-flagged ship M/T Marivex was en route to Iran via international waters in the Gulf of Oman when it was targeted, US Central Command said in a post on Twitter. CentCom reported that an F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS Abraham Lincoln fired precision munitions at engineering and steering areas of the ship because the ship’s crew did not follow US military instructions. “Marivex is no longer going to Iran,” it said.
According to news agency Reuters, India’s Shipping Ministry said that there were 24 Indian crew members on board the tanker. The ministry also said that a fire had been reported on the ship, but everyone was safe. “We are working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, our Indian missions abroad, the Indian Navy and the Defense Ministry to ensure their safety,” Opesh Kumar Sharma, director of the Union Ministry of Ports and Shipping, said at a press conference. He had earlier told that this ship is registered in Madagascar.
