Delhi LG writes letter to CM Atishi, directs to present pending CAG report in Assembly
New Delhi : LG VK Saxena has written a letter to Delhi CM Atishi, in which he has expressed deep concern over the matter of not presenting the pending report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the Assembly.
Let us tell you, VK Saxena said that these reports have been pending for many years and requests are being made continuously to the Chief Minister in this regard. Earlier, he had also written letters in this regard to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Assembly Speaker. The Lieutenant Governor wrote in his letter, 'Your government, which came to power on the basis of transparency and accountability, is trying to avoid public scrutiny of the expenses.'
What did LG Saxena say about CAG?
LG Saxena said that it is the responsibility of the government under the constitutional framework to present the CAG reports in the Assembly. CAG not only calculates financial transactions but also evaluates the effectiveness of public expenditure. He had discussed this issue several times with former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and said that this action of the government is a sign of constitutional impropriety.
What did VK Saxena appeal to CM Atishi?
LG VK Saxena appealed to Chief Minister Atishi during the current session to maintain public trust by presenting the CAG reports. He also said that transparency and accountability should be given priority while holding the post of Chief Minister.
Understand what is CAG?
CAG is called the Comptroller and Auditor General. CAG means that whatever money is spent by the government, it is the job of CAG to thoroughly investigate that expenditure. In such a situation, this agency finds out whether the money is being spent at the right place at the right time or not. Under this, the contingency fund and public accounts of both the central and state governments are also examined. For your information, let us also tell you that this agency is appointed by the President. The powers of this agency are mentioned in Articles 149, 150 and 151. The tenure of a CAG officer is from 6 to 65 years.
