Discussion regarding Sanju Samson’s return to the team… Suryakumar Yadav openly expressed his opinion regarding team selection.
Sports : Before the start of every cricket series or team selection, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson’s name remains in the headlines. Recently, Samson has not been a part of any ODI team, despite his average of 56, he was left out of the team. Despite consistently moving up and down the batting order in T20Is, he was dropped after just one failure in Australia. After returning in the Asia Cup, Shubman Gill took the opening position, while Jitesh Sharma is seen as a better performing batsman in the middle and lower order.
Middle order challenge for Sanju Samson
Due to the return of Shubman Gill after recovering from neck injury, the middle order has now become the place of struggle for Samson. Captain Suryakumar Yadav made it clear that apart from the opening batsmen of the team, all the players will have to be flexible. He said that Samson has been given opportunities and he is ready to bat at any number. The captain also said that both Gill and Samson have important roles in the team’s plans and are an asset to the team.
Team selection and captain’s approach
Suryakumar Yadav said that Shubman Gill has played in the Sri Lanka series before and hence deserved that place. He also said that every player in the team should be ready to bat in any position from number 3 to 6. The captain said that due to this flexibility, strategic options increase in the team and this is a positive situation for the team.
Samson and Jitesh Sharma’s performance
Sanju Samson has led Kerala with two half-centuries and two 40-plus scores and has batted at the top of the order. At the same time, Jitesh Sharma has been able to cross the 30 mark only twice in the last nine innings and after his unbeaten inning of 83 runs against UAE in the Asia Cup Rising Stars, he did not have any big score. Additionally, Shubman Gill has been deprived of any match practice for the last three weeks, and it will be interesting to see how he will face this challenge.
