The bravado continues even after the defeat… After losing in the Brisbane Test, Brendon McCullum now made a new excuse.
Brendon McCullum statement after loss: In the Pink Ball Test match played in Brisbane, England was defeated by Australia by 8 wickets. With the second consecutive defeat, England is in danger of losing the series. Now all eyes will be on the third Test starting in Adelaide from December 17. Meanwhile, England head coach Brendon McCullum has given a big statement regarding the team’s defeat and has pointed out the mistakes which affected the outcome of the match.
McCullum said- too much training did harm
Speaking to 7Cricket after the defeat, Brendon McCullum called the team’s preparation the biggest mistake. He said that before the Brisbane Test, the England team did five to ten training sessions, which could also result in players getting tired.
McCullum admitted that the tendency to work harder than necessary sometimes backfires. As a coach, the biggest responsibility is to keep the players in perfect balance mentally and physically. He said that sometimes in the desire to improve, we train more than expected, which can lead to lack of freshness during the match.
It is important for players to stay fresh
The coach further said that the team will now have to find a way by which the players remain technically prepared and also feel mentally fresh. He said that it is important to have a fresh mind to take quick decisions on the field.
McCullum also jokingly said, “We’re going to have a beer tonight, just to keep our minds at ease.” He reiterated that the team over-prepared before the Test, and this was one of the main reasons why they could not implement their plan on the field.
What is England’s strategy before the third test?
According to McCullum, the team will have to improve in many areas before the third Test. He said that England has come out of difficult situations before also, so there is no use in being disappointed. Now it is important that the team unites and enters the field again with full energy.
The coach admitted that in the first two matches, England could not perform at their best in all three departments – bowling, batting and fielding. He clearly said, “To beat Australia at home, you have to be excellent in all three departments, but we could not do that. This is a bitter truth and we have to accept it.”
