After the announcement of the smart meter scheme by the central government, the installation of smart prepaid meters in the homes of 56 lakh customers of PGV CL will be started from next January. Today PGVCL Managing Director Varunkumar Barnwal signed an MoU in Delhi and next week a team from Delhi will come to Rajkot to coordinate with all the Municipal Corporations of Saurashtra and the cities coming to Amrit City to plan the installation of smart meters.
Managing Director Varunkumar Baranwal said, first in Saurashtra-Kutch, smart meters will be installed in the cities of Rajkot, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Gondal and Jamnagar. At the same time, smart meters will be installed in all government offices including Rajkot. The installation of 23 lakh meters in the first phase and 33 lakh meters in the second phase will be started from January and will be completed by 2025.
Sources of PGVCL said, from the next month of January, every customer will be able to recharge the new smart prepaid meter like a mobile phone. Not only this, the recharge meter will also estimate how much electricity is consumed in what time. In future smart meter will also have fluctuating unit price i.e. unit price of electricity will vary in a single day. For example, if the consumption of electricity is less from morning to evening, the prices will be lower and if the consumption is more at night, the prices will also be different, so the smart meter scheme will be beneficial for the consumers, said power sources.

PGVCL plans to install fifty-six lakh smart pre-paid meters in the next two years, in which the first phase includes meters at Amrit City, government offices and distribution transformers, feeder meters etc.

Get alerted by ‘pay electricity bill’ message
For a long time now, messages have been sent to the mobile phones of electricity consumers of Saurashtra-Kutch, including Rajkot, to fill their electricity bills or else your electricity connection will be cut off at night. In this regard, the official sources of PGVCL have clarified that no such messages are sent from PGVCL. Cyber ​​bullying is being done in the name of PGVCL by some concerned elements. Customers have been asked to be alert if someone gets such a message and asks for an OTP, not to give it to them.
