Delhi’s historic Jama Masjid has banned the entry of single girls, no-entry boards for single women have been put up at the entry gates of the mosque, in which it is written. ‘Girls are not allowed to enter the Jama Masjid alone, meaning that if a girl is not accompanied by a male guardian, she will not be allowed to enter the mosque. The meaning is clear that without men, women will no longer be able to take entry in Jama Masjid. Politics has also started on this matter. Delhi Women’s Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal has opposed this order.
Swati Maliwal said that in this matter she will issue a notice to the Imam of the mosque, while the mosque administration says that this decision has been taken to prevent obscenity with women. He wrote in his tweet, “The decision to stop the entry of women in Jama Masjid is absolutely wrong, a woman has as much right to worship as a man. I am issuing a notice to the Imam of Jama Masjid, no one has the right to ban the entry of women like this.
Please tell that Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, has made it clear that women coming to offer Namaz will not be stopped. He said, ‘Such complaints were coming that girls come to the mosque with their lovers. If a woman wants to come to Jama Masjid, she has to come with family or husband. If she comes to offer Namaz, she will not be stopped. Jama Masjid’s PRO Sabiullah Khan said, ‘The entry of women is not restricted. When girls come alone, they do inappropriate things, shoot videos. It is banned to stop it. There is no restriction on families/married couples. Religious places should not be made inappropriate meeting points. Hence the ban. According to most Muslim clerics, Islam makes no distinction between men and women when it comes to worship. Women have the same right to worship as men, there is no entry ban for women in Mecca, Medina and Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, however, many mosques in India have entry ban for women.
