Experts Share Who Should Not Eat Okra

All types of vegetables, fruits and meats contain nutrients that protect our health. One of them is okra which has good nutritional value. It helps people to lose weight and improves digestion. It lowers blood sugar levels. But despite all these health benefits, okra is not for everyone. Let’s see who should not eat this vegetable at all.

Doctors warn people to not consume okra if they don’t want to face problems like gastrointestinal problems, bloating, gas cramping or even diarrhoea. Doctors have warned that it becomes more dangerous than poison. Here are some side-effects of okra which can cause harm to the people with these problems.

Allergy: Okra contains a type of protein called Lectin. It can cause allergies in some people. If there are any side effects of eating okra in your body, it is better not to add this vegetable to the diet. Otherwise, symptoms such as itching, swelling, breathing difficulties or abdominal pain may occur.

Digestive problems: Okra is high in fibre content. It can cause gas and bloating in some people. People who have digestive problems such as constipation or diarrhoea can aggravate these problems if they eat okra.

Sugar Levels: This vegetable contains components that can lower blood sugar levels. People taking diabetes medications and not having their blood sugar levels under control are at risk of consuming okra without medical advice. The chances of high cholesterol levels may increase if you eat okra after cooking it in excessive oil. It is better to cook bhindi in less oil with fewer spices and consume it healthily.

Pregnant women: Pregnant women and lactating women should take a lot of care in the matter of food. It is better to consult a doctor before consuming okra as it can cause harm to their baby.

Kidney Stones: If you have kidney stones, you should not eat okra at all. Because it aggravates kidney problems. Not only this, bhindi/okra can cause harm even in the case of kidney and gallbladder stones. It’s better to take the doctor’s advice before including this vegetable in your meal.
