Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman completes series of pre-budget meetings, budget to be presented in Parliament on February 1,
New Delhi. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has completed a series of meetings to be held to discuss the budget for the upcoming financial year 2023-24 with representatives of various stakeholders and sectors.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement released on Monday that the Finance Minister has completed eight rounds of pre-budget meetings between November 21 and 28. Under the chairmanship of Nirmala Sitamaran, eight meetings were successfully completed through video conferencing regarding the financial year 2023-24.
During eight pre-budget meetings, the Finance Minister discussed the forthcoming budget with over 110 invitees representing 7 stakeholder groups. Representatives and experts from agriculture and agro-processing industry in various stakeholder groups with the Minister of Finance, Industry, Infrastructure and Climate Change; Representatives of the financial sector and capital markets, services and trade, social sector, representatives of trade unions and labor organizations and economists were involved.
Apart from this, in the pre-budget meeting, Sitharaman also discussed with the Finance Ministers of all the States and Union Territories their inputs and suggestions regarding the upcoming Budget 2023-24. In all pre-budget meetings with the Finance Minister, Union Ministers of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary and Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) Secretary Ajay Seth, Secretaries of other Departments of the Ministry of Finance, DoR Sanjay Malhotra and Chief Economic Advisor Ananth Nageswaran and Senior officers were present.
The formal process of budget preparation for the upcoming financial year has started from October 24, 2022. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the annual budget for the financial year 2023-24 in Parliament on February 1, 2023.
