New Delhi: Four workers were killed and one seriously injured in an accident at a factory in Pune, Maharashtra. The factory, which specialises in glass products, was unloading boxes full of glass from a truck on Sunday when the incident occurred. Some of the boxes fell, burying workers beneath them. So far, four workers have died, while one remains in critical condition at the hospital. Aftefr the incident, senior officials rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
The accident took place at Glass India Company, located in Yewalewadi, Pune. Around 1.30 pm on Sunday, workers were unloading heavy glass boxes from a truss when four boxes suddenly collapsed. Due to their significant weight, six workers were trapped underneath. The fire brigade was immediately informed by other workers and fire department personnel arrived quikcly to begin rescue efforts.
Rescue operation
Sameer Shaikh, the station officer of the Kondhwa fire station, said that his team received the alert in the afternoon and responded quickly to the Yewalewadi area. After extensive efforts, they managed to pull six workers from under the fallen boxes. Four of the workers had lost consciousness and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Casualties
Doctors at the hospital declared four of the workers dead. The deceased have been identified as Ramchandra Kumar, Dharmendra Satyapal Kumar, Vikas Prasad Gautam and Amit Shivshankar Kumar. Monesar Koli and Jagatpal Santram Kumar were injured in the accident, with one in critical condition. The Yewalewadi area is home to several factories, many of which reportedly operate without proper licenses.
