GE Aerospace plans for India, supply of spare parts will increase

New Delhi : GE Aerospace, an engine manufacturing company in the aviation sector, has decided to increase the supply of spare parts to expand its business in India. A senior official associated with the company has said in his statement that India is a growing aviation market. Let us tell you that the company has a manufacturing unit in Pune and John F Welch Technology Company Center in Bengaluru.

Currently, it has 13 major suppliers, which also includes Tata Advanced Systems Limited or TASL. Mahendra Nair, group vice president of commercial programs at GE Aerospace, said India's contribution to the supply chain will increase. Speaking to PTI in New Delhi recently, Nair said, “We have some very capable companies in India who have the right engineering talent, the right production capacity and as long as they can meet the technical standards that are required We are searching, till then there will be an increase in purchases from them.”

Company's purchases increased 20 times

“India is a market that is going to grow even more in the times to come and hence it makes sense for us to continue sourcing more from here,” he said. Vikram Rai, CEO, South Asia, GE Aerospace, said that the company's procurement has increased 20 times during the period 2018 to 2022. India is one of the fastest growing civil aviation markets in the world and domestic aviation companies are expanding their fleet.

Demand increases 25 percent every year

On the state of the global supply chain, Nair said the situation in the aviation industry is 'tough'. Nair said, “It will take at least two more years for the supply chain to improve. This is because the demand on the supply chain is increasing by 25 percent every year.”

1,300 CFM engine

GE Aerospace also has a similar joint venture with Safran Aircraft Engines, called CFM. It manufactures 'Leap' engines, which are used in many small aircraft in India. At present, around 1,300 engines from GE Aerospace and CFM are installed in various aircraft of Indian aviation service companies.
