Patna. Bihar government has taken a big step to make women self-reliant and environmentally conscious. The state government is going to give special subsidy to women on purchasing electric vehicles from June 1, 2026. Under the Bihar Electric Vehicle (Amendment) Policy 2026, women will be given financial assistance for purchasing electric cars, bikes and three-wheelers.
Grant to women on car and bike
According to the new policy, if a woman buys an electric car, she will be given a subsidy of up to Rs 1 lakh by the government. Women will get a grant of up to Rs 12,000 on purchasing an electric bike, scooty or scooter. Men belonging to the general category will be given an assistance of Rs 10,000 on purchasing an electric two-wheeler, but men will not get the benefit of subsidy on purchasing a car.
Relief will also be available on electric three-wheeler
The government has decided to give subsidy not only on cars and bikes but also on electric cargo three-wheelers. Women belonging to the general category will get a grant of up to Rs 50,000 for purchasing an electric three-wheeler. Whereas women belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category will be given assistance up to Rs 60 thousand. This is also expected to boost small businesses and self-employment.
Applications will start from June 1
The Transport Department has intensified preparations for this scheme. The government has entrusted the responsibility of preparing an online portal to NIC to ease the application process. SOP will soon be issued by the department, in which the complete application process and necessary guidelines will be explained. It is believed that its official announcement will be made after the departmental meeting next week.
Exemption in motor vehicle tax also
Bihar government has also given tax relief to promote electric vehicles. All electric vehicles purchased and registered in the state will get up to 50 percent rebate in motor vehicle tax. This will make it even cheaper for people to buy electric vehicles.
