“Greedy, mean, traitor..” Mahua Moitra’s sharp attack on rebel TMC MPs, said – resign and contest elections on BJP ticket.
These days, there is such turmoil going on in the political circles that every day some new story comes to light. It is as if the politics of West Bengal is riding on an earthquake. The internal discord of Trinamool Congress has now taken such a dire form that clouds of disunity are clearly looming in the party. After the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, now the party’s MPs have raised the flag of rebellion, due to which Mamata Banerjee’s troubles are not showing any signs of diminishing.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra got so angry at these rebel MPs that she directly challenged them. In his post on social media platform X, he even called these leaders ‘greedy, selfish and traitors’. Moitra, showing a sharp attitude, said in clear words that all these MPs had won on Trinamool Congress ticket in 2024, the mandate was not for NDA. His direct attack was that if they have the guts, all these ‘yellow pants’ rebel leaders should now join BJP, resign from their respective seats and contest the elections on BJP ticket. Saying ‘let’s see how big a hero you are’, he called for exposing the reality of these leaders.
All this happened when Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee’s troubles increased further. Around twenty Trinamool MPs, including rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, decided to officially express their intention to become part of the NDA by writing a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. This move is a clear indication of a major rift in the Trinamool parliamentary party.
Beginning of rebellion under the leadership of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar
Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who was unhappy with the party after being removed from the post of first whip, led the rebellion. He argues that considering the people’s decision, he believes that his “political path forward should be with the NDA.” He has said this at a time when the party needs unity the most. Dastidar said that about twenty Trinamool MPs along with him have decided to officially register their desire to become a part of the NDA by submitting a letter to Speaker Om Birla.
At the same time, another rebel Trinamool MP Sharmila Sarkar also confirmed this. He said, “We are forming a separate group of twenty MPs and are going to support the NDA.” He also informed that Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been made his Chief Whip and Shatabdi Roy will be his deputy leader. This announcement is another big blow to the party, indicating that discontent has now come to the surface.
Separate group of 58 MLAs under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee
This entire incident is just a repetition of a trend already seen in West Bengal politics. Similarly, fifty-eight MLAs under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee had formed a separate group and, learning from the old pattern of Shiv Sena, claimed to be the “real” Trinamool. His complaint was against Shobhandeb Chatterjee, the party’s choice for leader of the opposition in the state assembly. The Assembly Speaker had also accepted Ritabrata Banerjee for this post and also handed over the keys of the party room to him.
In this way, after the defeat in the elections, there has been a split in the Trinamool Congress, first in the state assembly and now in the Lok Sabha. This is not just the defection of the MPs, but a big sign of deep-seated dissatisfaction within the party and raising questions on the leadership. It remains to be seen how Mamata Banerjee deals with this political shock and whether she is able to save her party from this collapse or not.
MPs won in 2024 on TMC ticket. Mandate was NOT for NDA. All the greedy self-serving traitors with yellow-stained pants can please join BJP now- resign your seats & contest on BJP ticket. Let’s see what big heroes you are.
