Tezzbuzz, New Delhi: Amidst the increasing risk of diabetes across the country including Tamil Nadu, a study has found that a small change in the habit of drinking tea can protect us from this disease to an extent. Four sips of black, green or oolong (traditional Chinese beverage) tea may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a new study. This study has been done on more than one million adults from eight countries.

Lead author Xiying Li from Wuhan University of Science and Technology in China said: “Our results are shocking, suggesting that people can do as little as drinking four cups of tea a day to avoid type-2 diabetes. ” The study will be presented shortly at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Sweden.

Properties of tea
Due to the various antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic compounds in tea, drinking tea regularly has been shown to be beneficial for health in some studies. But the relationship between it and diabetes risk has been established for the first time. An analysis on a population of one million establishes that each cup of tea consumed per day reduces the risk of developing diabetes by about 1 percent. Another study related to this has also been published in the journal Diabetologia.

Compared with adults who do not drink tea, those who drink 1-3 cups of tea daily have a 4 percent lower risk of diabetes, while those who consume at least 4 cups each day have a 17 percent lower risk. has decreased.

out-of-conclusion opinion
Despite the significant findings, the research authors believe that this study is observational and cannot prove that drinking tea reduces the risk of diabetes, but does indicate that it is likely to contribute. Key aspects of this research include the high intake of tea (4 times) and the combination of other organic compounds that require further research.
