The England Cricket Team is playing a three-match series in New Zealand against the Kiwis. The ongoing match, the first of the series, is being played in the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The away team won the toss before Day One and decided to bowl first.
The BlackCaps, on the back of a fine 93-run inning, crossed the 300-run mark on the first day, ending the day with a score of 319/8. Glenn Phillips scored a 50 today and dragged the team to a score of 348 and remained unbeaten. Shoaib Bashir and Brydon Carse took four wickets each for the Three Lions.

England got off to a poor start to their inning. Opener Zak Crawley was dismissed for a duck after struggling for 12 balls in front of the Kiwi pace attack. At the score of 43, Jacob Bethell got out before Joe Root was bowled for a duck.
With the English reeling at 45/3, in walked Harry Brook and took charge of the inning. After holding on to one end of the pitch for the initial barrage, Ben Duckett was dismissed just shy of a half-century.
With four wickets down at 71, Brook, along with Ollie Pope, decided to stand firm at the pitch. The two batted and batted, scoring runs at a decent rate with the typical Bazball panache.

First, Harry reached his 50, then did Ollie. But with both batters looking like they would score triple-digit runs, Pope fell victim to the veteran Tim Southee. However, by this point, the two batters had taken the England inning to 222 runs, dragging them out of the trouble they found themselves early in the inning.
In the third session of the day, Harry Brook reached the 100-run mark, scoring his seventh Test hundred in just his 22nd game.
At the end of the day’s play, the England Cricket Team was at 319/5 and trailed by just 29 runs. They are now the favourites to win this game. Meanwhile, Brook left the pitch unbeaten at 132 in just 163 deliveries.
On the other end was captain Ben Stokes, who is currently at 37 runs in 76 deliveries. He will play a supporting role on Day Three, as England will look to take a massive lead in the first inning.
