Science says, cultivating pistachios and taking care of its trees is not easy. The matter is not limited to care, it takes 15 to 20 years for the pistachio tree to bear fruit. Apart from this, there are many such reasons which increase its price and their supply is not able to meet the demand. They are being cultivated on a large scale in many parts of the world including California and Brazil.
Why is the price of pistachios so high compared to other dry fruits and how beneficial it is, know the answers to these questions.
After 15 years only one tree gives 22 kg of pistachios
According to Ashish Kumar, expert of Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant (CSIR), after 15 to 20 years of maturity of a tree, the farmer gets only a small amount of pistachios from it. On average, one tree gives 22 kg of pistachios in a year. According to the demand for pistachios, their production is always very less. Brazil is the only country where the situation is slightly different, every year about 90 kg of pistachios are produced from a tree.

That's why the price of pistachios increases
According to the report, after 15 to 20 years of sowing pistachios, fruits start coming in it. Pistachios are prepared from them. These trees have to be taken care of for so many years, it costs a lot. Even aftercare, there is no guarantee that the pistachios will be ready from the trees as expected. It was not that easy to produce it. It requires more water, more labor, more land, and more money. In this way, their price also increases.
not produced every year
Farmers have to buy more land and plant more trees for its cultivation, although the production is only nominal. Even more special thing is that pistachios do not come in the trees every year. Therefore, farmers have to plant two crops, in which the yield is produced every year. Therefore, despite having enough trees, pistachios are not produced according to demand.
Workers are needed on a large scale
Pistachio cultivation requires a large scale of labor. Each pistachio is broken by hand and cleaned. They are separated according to the quality. During their sorting, it is also seen that which will be sent for export and which will be kept. In this way, their cost increases further due to the wages paid to the workers for their sorting.
Pistachios are beneficial due to having many types of nutrients. Protein, potassium, vitamin B6 and copper are found in it. According to the report of Healthline, pistachios keep the eyes healthy along with reducing weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol.
