Kolkata. Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, who created a political stir by laying the foundation stone of a Babri Masjid-style mosque in Murshidabad in West Bengal, took a shocking U-turn on Monday. Kabir, who had announced his resignation a few days ago on December 17, has now said that he will not resign from the post of MLA. Kabir told journalists that there is no question of my resignation. The people of my constituency have appealed to me not to resign and I will respect their wish.

Kabir claimed that he got unexpected public support at the mosque foundation stone laying ceremony, after which he decided to withdraw his resignation. He said that people have chosen me as their representative. They want me to continue in the post. Earlier he had announced to form a new political party on December 22 and resign before that.

seating arrangement will change

TMC has made it clear that the party will now maintain distance from Kabir in the Assembly also. According to party sources, his assembly seat will be shifted to BJP benches. Earlier he was given a position in the front row because of his ministry experience. TMC Chief Whip Nirmal Ghosh said that we are keeping an eye on the situation. A decision will be taken soon on the seating of suspended MLAs.

Despite not resigning, Kabir said that he is sticking to his plan of forming a new party. He claimed that two more MLAs would join him, but refused to name them. Kabir also said that CPI(M) leader Mohammad Salim is in talks with the Congress and there is a possibility of seat-sharing in Murshidabad.

Quran recitation organized in response to Geeta recitation

Kabir announced that a public-level Quran recitation program would be organized in Murshidabad. This decision is being said to be in response to the BJP supported ‘Panch Lakh Kanthe Geeta Path’ held at Kolkata Brigade Ground. At the same time, TMC State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh made a scathing attack on Kabir. He said that we do not want political use of Geeta. But Kabir has tried to create poisonous communal polarization by taking the name of Babri Masjid. We strongly condemn this.
