‘I Love PM Modi.. I’m A Big Fan.. India Can Count On Me 100 Per Cent’: Trump Dials Gor During US Event In Delhi
New Delhi: There was a surprise ‘visitor’ at America’s 250th Independence Day event at the US Embassy in Delhi on Sunday evening.
A ‘virtual’ visitor, to be precise.
With US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in attendance, President Donald Trump came live on phone during the specially organised event and spoke with America’s Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
Not for the first time, Trump spoke highly of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“You have to be a representative of our country, Sergio. But I just want to say hello to everybody. I love India.. I love the Prime Minister. Modi is great. He’s my friend,” Trump said as Rubio stood in front of a giant screen installed at the event.

As Gor continued the conversation, Trump saluted ‘big fan’ Modi and gave a message of reassurance to India.
“India can count on me 100%. If they ever need help, they know where to call. They call right here. We’re doing well. We’re setting records. We have a record economy, a record stock market and anything India wants to get. I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi… Marco (Rubio) is the greatest. He’s going down as the greatest Secretary of State in the history of the US… Say hello to Prime Minister Modi and let him know I’m a big fan,” Trump said, underscoring the close ties between the two nations, and the rapport between the two leaders.

Speaking at the event, the Ambassador Gor said that the India-US partnership continues to deepen under the leadership of Trump and PM Modi.
“This open path diplomacy is driven by the personal bond between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi. I hear about it every time the President and I speak. One of the first questions the President will ask is, ‘How is my friend the Prime Minister doing?’ And that is something that is important to convey. Because this relationship is not new. It’s not a year old,” Gor said.
