ICC calls emergency meeting for Champions Trophy, will talk directly with PCB and BCCI

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will hold an emergency board meeting on Tuesday, November 26, to take a final decision on the 2025 Champions Trophy and find a solution to the impasse between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to The Times of India, both BCCI and PCB will be present in this meeting to be held virtually.

Previous champions Pakistan have been handed the hosting rights for the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy. However, India has refused to travel to its neighboring country citing security concerns, raising doubts over the future of the tournament. The BCCI had told the ICC that it intended to host India's matches at a neutral venue, after which the tournament could be conducted under a 'hybrid model'.

Last year's 50-over Asia Cup was also hosted by Pakistan but after India's objection, the tournament was played under a hybrid model, with most of the matches being held in Sri Lanka. However, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB has flatly refused to talk about the hybrid model in the Champions Trophy.

The PCB has even threatened that if the Champions Trophy is taken out of Pakistan due to its refusal to accept the 'hybrid model', it will not only boycott it but also boycott any future tournament including the World Cup. Will also refuse to play with India. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether ICC succeeds in finding any solution in this emergency meeting or not.
