Georgetown: During the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, leaders from the member countries observed a flypast featuring two Dornier 228 aircraft, which were acquired from India’s HAL by Guyana.

The Ministry of External Affairs released footage showing the Dornier aircraft executing a graceful flypast while being observed by the leaders of India and Guyana.

According to details from the Indian Coast Guard, the Dornier 228 is a twin-engine turboprop, a highly adaptable multi-mission maritime patrol aircraft produced by HAL for the Indian Coast Guard. It is noted for its lightweight design, broad operating speed range, and fuel efficiency.

The Dornier 228 is designed for rapid conversion to fulfil various functions, including maritime patrol and surveillance, marine pollution response, search and rescue operations, and medical evacuation.

These two Dornier 228 aircraft were inducted into the Guyanese Defense Force earlier in April of this year.

Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali had shared the details on X.

” The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited @HALHQBLR delivered two Dornier 228 planes to the Guyana Defence Force. The planes arrived at Cheddi Jagan International Airport last evening aboard two Boeing C-17 Globemaster military transport planes”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently completed a momentous trip to Guyana.

This visit represented the concluding segment of an important tour that commenced in Nigeria, proceeded to Brazil for the 19th G20 Summit, and culminated with a momentous State visit to Guyana. It was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to this South American country in more than half a century.

While in Guyana, PM Modi presided over the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit alongside Caribbean leaders, aiming to bolster India’s ties with the CARICOM nations. Additionally, he took part in a variety of cultural events, conducted numerous bilateral discussions, and was honoured with awards from the member states.
