Indian men’s and women’s teams win gold at ISSF World Junior C’ship

The Indian men’s and women’s teams clinched gold medals in the 10m air pistol events at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru, on Sunday.

Kanak, on the other hand, won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol final.

In the men’s event, the team of Umesh Choudhary (580), Pradhyumn Singh (578), and Mukesh Nelavalli (574) scored a combined total of 1732 points to win the team gold.

Umesh and Pradhyumn also reached the men’s 10m air pistol final, finishing third and fourth, respectively.

Mukesh narrowly missed qualifying for the final, finishing ninth, just behind Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Hsiang-Chen, who took the eighth spot due to having two more inner tens than the Indian shooter.

In the individual final, however, both Umesh and Pradhyumn faltered. Pradhyumn finished eighth with a score of 115.3, while Mukesh was placed sixth with a score of 155.

On the women’s side, the team of Kanishka Dagar, Kanak and Lakshita clinched the gold medal with a combined score of 1717, just one point ahead of the silver medal-winning Azerbaijan team.

Ukraine bagged the bronze medal. Kanishka and Kanak scored 573 points each, while Lakshita contributed 571 points, respectively.

Kanishka advanced to the final alongside Kanak. Although Kanishka, who ranked third in the qualification round, did not perform well in the final, Kanak delivered an impressive showing, winning the bronze with a score of 217.6. Chen Yu-Chun of Chinese Taipei claimed gold, and Slovakia’s Manja Slok secured the silver.

India currently lead the medal tally with two gold medals and one bronze medal
