Indigo Crisis: More than 650 flights canceled on the sixth day and government’s ultimatum, asked- why not take action?
Indigo crisis latest news: The crisis of the country’s largest airline Indigo is not showing any signs of stopping. Amidst the huge turmoil that has been going on for the last five days, the troubles of the passengers did not reduce even on the sixth day i.e. Sunday. Today again more than 650 flights were cancelled, leaving thousands of people stranded at airports across the country. However, now the government has adopted a very tough stance. The company has been given clear instructions to refund the passengers’ money under any circumstances by 8 pm on 7th December, otherwise be prepared for strict action.
After 1,600 flights were canceled on Friday and 800 on Saturday, 650 flights from cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Chennai remained grounded on Sunday. The airline has clarified that operations are underway at 135 out of 138 destinations and the situation will be completely normal by December 10. But the reality was visible at Agartala Airport, where due to cancellation of 9 out of 11 flights, the fare to Kolkata which was earlier Rs 3200, has now increased to Rs 11 to 13 thousand.
Government ultimatum and rent limit
The Civil Aviation Ministry has issued strict orders to provide relief to the passengers. The CEO of the company will have to explain within 24 hours why action should not be taken against him for this mismanagement that has been going on for the last five days. If no reply is received, DGCA will take a unilateral decision. Also, the pending luggage of the passengers will have to be delivered to their address in the next 48 hours. To ensure that other airlines do not take advantage of the compulsion of passengers, a fare limit has also been fixed. Now the fare will be Rs 7500 for 500 kms, Rs 12 thousand for 1000 kms and not more than Rs 18 thousand in any case. However, this rule will not apply to business class.

Formation of stranded passengers and investigation committee
The situation on the ground is such that Nepalese tourist Ramchandra has been waiting for his flight at Chandigarh Airport for the last three days. In view of thousands of such complaints, the parliamentary committee headed by JDU leader Sanjay Jha can summon the officials of the airline and the ministry and seek answers. At the same time, DGCA has formed a four-member investigation panel to get to the bottom of this entire matter. This committee includes Joint Director General Sanjay K Bramhan, Amit Gupta, Captain Kapil Manglik and Captain Rampal. This panel will submit its report within 15 days. At present, Indigo says that it will take a lot of time to win back the trust of passengers.
