Foreign ministers of America, Russia, China participated in the talks of South Asian countries
Foam Penh: The US Secretary of State attended a meeting with the foreign ministers of Russia and China on Friday. The meeting is taking place amid rising tensions between the US and Russia with China. The East Asia Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is underway in the capital of Cambodia. This is the first time that the three ministers have to attend a meeting on the same platform.
The meeting comes at a time when Russia convicted American basketball player Brittany Griner of possession of narcotics and sentenced her to nine years in prison amid political tensions over the invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, China is angry about the visit of US Parliament Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan and has started military exercises in response. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi patted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on his shoulder as he entered the meeting room and shook his hand before returning to his seat. In response, Lavrov also shook his hand. At last Blinken, who entered the meeting room, did not even look at Lavrov and sat down on his seat. In the wake of the talks, the US State Department indicated that Blinken did not plan to meet in person during these meetings.
