Internet will be faster in UP, broadband will reach every village!
Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step towards giving new heights to digital connectivity in the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched ‘Project Ganga’ from his residence on Kalidas Marg in Lucknow. The objective of this project is to provide fast and reliable internet services to rural and semi-urban areas, thereby further strengthening the dream of Digital India.
High-speed internet will reach villages
Under ‘Project Ganga’, a target has been set to provide broadband connectivity to more than 20 lakh rural and semi-urban homes in the state in the next 2 to 3 years. With this, people living in villages will also be able to get urban level digital facilities. Services like telemedicine, e-education, e-governance and e-commerce will now be easily available in rural areas also.
Employment through digital connectivity
The government believes that this project will not only increase internet facilities but will also create new employment opportunities. It is estimated that more than one lakh direct and indirect employment will be created through this project. There is a plan to ensure almost half the participation of women in these, which will further strengthen their role in the rural economy.
Which areas will it start from?
In the initial phase, the scheme will be implemented in the border and backward districts of the state like Shravasti, Bahraich and Balrampur. After this, it will gradually be expanded to the entire Uttar Pradesh, so that digital facilities can reach every village.
Public and private partnership
This project is based on partnership between the state government and the private sector. In this, State Transformation Commission and Hinduja Group’s subsidiary company OneOTT Entertainment Limited are working together. Through this model, both technical efficiency and investment have been linked.
