Delhi: For IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals retained Axar Patel for Rs 16.50 crore before the auction, while releasing last season's captain Rishabh Pant. However, the team failed to buy Pant again but they bought KL Rahul for Rs 14 crore.

Akshar should be made captain instead of Rahul
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Delhi Capitals should make Akshar Patel the captain in place of KL Rahul. On his YouTube channel, he said that Akshar is a good player, whose performance has always been excellent for the franchise.
Akash said, “If I get a chance to choose, I would recommend Akshar Patel to be the captain. He is very underrated, but his performance and leadership abilities cannot be ignored. He can handle the team well and can also gain the respect of the players.”
Axar is better than Rahul and Faf du Plessis
He called Akshar a better option than Rahul and Faf du Plessis. Chopra said, “Rahul can be the second option and Faf can be the third. However, it will be difficult to include Faf in the playing eleven, because the team has used the Right to Match card for Jake Fraser-McGurk. In such a situation, Akshar Patel is the most suitable player for captaincy.”
Chopra believes that Akshar's excellent performance with this franchise makes him a strong contender for captaincy.
