Tsunami waves reached up to 70 centimeters
Tsunami alert was issued immediately after the earthquake. Waves up to 70 cm were recorded in Kuji Port of Iwate. Light waves were also seen in Aomori and Hokkaido. Nuclear plant safe, 450 liters of radioactive water spilled
The government confirmed that the Higashidori and Onagawa nuclear plants were safe, but 450 liters of water spilled from a spent-fuel cooling system at the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant. Officials declared it free from danger.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi activated the emergency team and asked people to remain alert. “Be prepared for immediate evacuation in case of any shock,” he warned.
Megaquake Alert: Possibility of major earthquake in the next one week
JMA has issued a warning that the probability of a “megaquake” of magnitude 8 has increased in the next one week. This warning is for 182 municipalities on the Pacific coast from Hokkaido to Chiba. JMA official Satoshi Harada said, “A disaster like 2011 could happen again, so preparation is very important.”
