Perth, 23 November (HS). Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has made a place in the list of best bowlers of all time on the basis of his brilliant performance in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia in Perth.

With his blistering pace, Bumrah set the Perth pitch on fire with his sharp spells, shaking the Australian batting unit in the first innings. Bumrah dictated the pace of the innings by playing the ball at will and put India in a good position. With his captivating spell, Bumrah registered his name among the best bowlers on the surface in the longest format of cricket. In the list of bowlers who have taken at least 150 Test wickets, Bumrah is the bowler with the second-highest bowling average.

According to ESPNcricinfo, with 178 Test wickets, Bumrah averages 20.16, ahead of England’s legendary right-arm fast bowler Sydney Barnes, who has a bowling average of 16.43. During his illustrious career, Barnes took 189 wickets in just 27 matches. The 30-year-old Indian fast bowler overtook former Australian star Alan Davidson’s impressive Test bowling average of 20.53.

During his career, Davidson took 186 wickets in 27 matches for the Baggy Greens. Bumrah’s spell in the first innings ended with figures of 5/30 in 18 overs as the Australian innings collapsed for 104 runs thanks to his brilliant bowling. Bumrah achieved his 11th Test five-wicket haul on the second day of the opening Test. This was Bumrah’s seventh fiver in Sena countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia).

With his recent exploits, Bumrah has reached level with the great Kapil Dev for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in international matches.
