20-year-old Leicestershire pacer Josh Hull will miss the upcoming England men’s Test tour of Pakistan following his recent debut. He is sidelined due to a quad injury, which also prevented him from participating in the white-ball series against Australia.
Hull made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at The Oval on September 6, 2024, where he took three wickets for 53 runs in the first innings.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced Hull’s injury on Twitter, stating, “Get well soon, Josh. Josh Hull has been ruled out of our Test tour of Pakistan due to a quad injury.” Hull sustained the injury during his maiden Test, leading to his withdrawal from the series against Australia. Although he was expected to recover, the persistent nature of the injury prompted the ECB to withdraw him from the three-Test series on Thursday.
As of now, England has not named a replacement for Hull and will travel to Pakistan with a 16-man squad on October 1. The Test series is set to commence on October 7 in Multan. In light of Josh Hull’s absence, England’s leading fast bowling choices for the Pakistan Test series comprise Chris Woakes, Matthew Potts, Olly Stone, Gus Atkinson, and Brydon Carse. The 16-player squad for the series has been unveiled as Ben Stokes is not expected to bowl at the beginning of the series but is set to lead the team.
